Crashes

Should be called Crasho 3. Open it, crash. Try a new document, crash. Try to drop a file on the newly created document, crash. That was in 3 minutes. I think it’s a record. How did this get past QA? Did you even do any QA? SuperMegaUltraGroovyGarbage. That should be the name of the company based on these results.

Awesome Update, For Me

Not sure about the others who seem to be having issues, but for me, this update is miraculous. I loaded up several Capo project from the last version, deleted its "ok" chords and let the new version notate the same tracks and WOW - amazing results! Not 100% perfect but as close as I think a machine will ever be in my lifetime. Highly recommended!

Not what it is said to be

I just paid for Capo 3. The spectrogram will not open at all, which basically renders this purchase useless. Please fix the application as soon as possible. It is usesless if I can’t access the spectrogram.

Some bugs in 3.1, but great overall

In general, I love Capo. It gives transcription a visual aspect, which is invaluable. It’s not perfect, and you still have to think about what you’re doing, but it makes it a much less painful process. My only wish is for a export to midi function, so I can load up the notes in Garage Band, and take it from there, or port it over to a finale-type program to print out sheet music. For me, this version starts correctly, and occasionally doesn’t load the spectrogram. It gets it most of the time, though. Also, the waveform seems to be busted when opening old projects. Adding new audio files seems to work normally, though.

Awesome. Buy it now.

Better chord recognition along with an amazing but simple interface. The new improvements make this leapfrog over Riffstation and it’s cheaper to boot. This is a no brainer. I’m sold. Hurry before it goes to full price.

Keeps CRASHING!!!!

Please update! This version keeps crashing!!!

Wow - Best chord detection out there

Capo 3 is by far the most useful of the apps on Mac and iOS in my musical toolkit. No, it will NOT figure out a song for you, nor write the tab for you, but it will give you a starting place (and a darn good one) to fill in the blanks with your ear and musical knowledge. The audio quality is also second to none. The chord detection is super useful as well, and more accurate that others out there. I love this app and wouldn’t be learning bebop solos without it. I’m on the latest Mavericks (10.9.4) and everything is working fine for me, BTW.

Crashes

Crashes on 10.8.5, MBP w/ Core 2 Duo. And can we please have Markers back? They were very useful in Capo 2.

Not working at all

I had such high hopes for this, but to say I was disappointed would be a massive understatement. It doesnt work at all. It doesnt display a spectrogram, and I get a window full of hashed garbage once I resize the window even a little bit. It also crashes frequently. I tried re-installing, repairing disk permissions, etc. No dice. This this is completely unusable in its present form. Im running 10.8.5, which is supposed to be compatible. If only I had scrolled down further and read the reviews of other people in the same boat, I couldve saved myself the money.

V.3.1.1 fixed previous crashing/display issues

Many thanks to the developers for quickly correcting the issues with v. 3.1. It now works better than ever. Kudos!

Great Aid for Figuring Out Chords and Leads

This app has improved greatly with the newest version, and thanks to the makers for quickly fixing the problems from last week’s update. The initial version I purchased months ago was great for slowing down the songs and listening to leads to help get them figured out, but the chord translation was not all that good. With this newest version the chord translation has improved greatly. I just used it on a fairly complex song and the chord translation was phenomenal. Okay, so it may have said an Amaj7 instead of an A or an A7, or a seventh or major seventh where you might play the regular chord but that’s a matter of taste. What was surprising is just how accurately it got the entire chord structure with dead on accuracy or getting you in the ball park. Can’t wait to see the next level of improvements!

Great app for figuring out chords for you!

I love this app! If you aren’t able to find chords online, and you aren’t good at figuring them out yourself, this app is very helpful! You put the song in the app, and it tells you what chords are being played. If those chords look too hard, simply play with the ‘capo’ feature until it is in a key with chords you can actually play. This is so useful when you want to know how to play a song that is not very well known, and there are no chords for it posted online. I will admit, the automatic chord detection isn’t perfect, but it is very close and definitely shoots you in the right direction. And if you would like to change any of the chords, it gives you the option to do so. Overall, love the app. Worth every penny! To the Developers - Thanks for fixing the previous issue with the ‘capo’ feature not changing the chords!!

Does not work at all

I bought this application to help teach my kids how to play guitar. I tested the application by having it analyze songs that I personally wrote and recorded and it was completely unable to get the chords right. I tried multiple discs that I have out and the application was never right. I tried it on discs by other artists for songs that I definitely know how to play and the chords were not detected properly for anything. It never gets the voicings right at any time.

Not impressed

I tried some simple songs with easy cords. Not even close. I just wasted $15.00 :(

ATTENTION

dear potential buyers, This app has its ups and its downs. I warn you dont go in thinking that it will be able to tell you the chords for a song because it won’t. The chord reconition is terrible. Also the voice reduction is doenst get the job done well enough for my liking. This app is a goof fit for a user who wants to slow the music down, really get a good idea of what each chord sounds like, and then figuring it out by ear. If that is the task you are looking to achieve, i say there couldnt be a better app out there for you and your guitar.

Don’t upgrade to

Works great for slowing down music to learn be ear. Chord detection is hit or (mostly) miss. Doesn’t work on the new OS X beta, so be careful if you’re tempted to try it out.

Very heplful!

works for what I need. Its gives you a decent head start for learning a song.

Great tool but in need of refinement

I’ve been a fan of Capo for a long time, and I love that Capo 3 now has iCloud integration so it’ll work with the iOS apps seamlessly. That said, there’s a lot of clunkiness in version 3 on the control and usability side. Gesture support for zoom either doesn’t work at all, doesn’t exist, or works half the time. This is very, very frustrating from a usability standpoint and a step backwards from previous versions. Setting regions also leaves something to be desired still. I think the idea is going in the right direction, but it needs refinement; and I really miss being able to set a loop point and just hit L to have it loop the region. Also, scrolling through the song does not work while the song is playing, which is frustrating. I’d also love to see a custom tuning setting, which I thought I read at one point was going to be included in version 3, but I could be wrong. And lastly, something I felt that Capo has always been sorely missing is a step-trainer. It would be outstanding to be able to repeat a region and set a program for tempo percentage increases after a certain number of repeats. Overall, Capo is still a go-to tool for me and one I’d highly recommend, but Capo 3 needs some polishing on the basics, and the app in general could really be improved a lot with a few simple feature additions. Edit: gestures don’t work on both a mid-2011 iMac with Magic Trackpad and a late-2013 15.4" MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

At First I was amazed and then…….. Don’t waste your money or time.

After using this for a while I’ve come to the conclusion that it is next to worthless. The chord recognition is terrible. I have bought tunes out of iTunes just out of curiosity that I owned in another format to find that this app couldn’t get even simple songs correct. Back to the online tab sites for me. They are much more accurate

Excellent phrase trainer

I’ve purchased every version of Capo from the beginning, before chord detection was even part of it. It was—and remains—an excellent tool for slowing down, looping, and changing the pitch of songs for the sake of learning and transcribing. The chord detection is, for me, icing on the cake, and it works better than ever in Capo 3. Capo is among the most beloved apps on my Mac (and my iOS devices, for that matter), and it just keeps getting better. Highly recommended.
